Editorial policy

How we choose, research, review, label, and update stories.

Reader-first purpose

We commission an article only when it answers a concrete question for a reader interested in place, records, preservation, or ethical family history. We do not create pages to fill a keyword grid, imitate a competitor, or manufacture freshness.

Verification

Primary records and official guidance come first. Secondary sources may provide context but cannot silently upgrade a disputed or old claim. Dates stay close to time-sensitive facts. Current operating details require current operator evidence.

Privacy and dignity

We do not publish scraped obituaries, bulk burial lists, exact details about living people, private family conflict, medical information, or graphic descriptions. No ad placement or headline may exploit grief, current tragedy, or a family’s memorial.

Images and AI assistance

Launch artwork was generated as editorial illustration and is labeled on every use. It contains no real names or identifiable graves. Automated assistance may support drafting or technical production, but humans remain responsible for source review, accuracy, titles, metadata, image alternatives, and corrections. Scaled low-value publishing is prohibited.

Updates

A date changes only when meaningful review or revision occurs. Substantive corrections are documented; style fixes need not create a false update signal.
